Janey_Godley Liverpool looks good

Been ages since I have been to Liverpool and my GOD it has changed beyond some recognition- big flashy shops and a weird area just full of expansive expensive shops like an LA mall or something. But it is lovely and that’s cracking, though I don’t understand why building big concrete shopping museums as a way of regenerating a city is helpful- but am not educated in inner city regeneration, so what the hell do I know? I am staying in lovely flash serviced apartments; it really is so awesome-but… Continue

OJB A Painful Interview

I just listened to an interview featuring Theresa Gattung, the previous CEO of Telecom New Zealand, who has just released a book, titled "Bird on a Wire". It might be an interesting book to read because it sounds as if she hasn't hesitated to be critical of the people she sees as being to blame for the problems Telecom (which is still New Zealand's biggest company as far as I know) is currently experiencing.

Most of what she said in the interview (I haven't read

OJB You Win Some...

Everyone has heard of the old saying "you win some and you lose some". Its true, I guess, because no person, group, or cause ever wins every battle and there are always setbacks to any conflict, even if the overall outcome is a win.

It has seemed in the past that the battle for rationality against superstition, pseudoscience, and other nonsense has been a losing one, but there have been a few impressive wins more recently.

Maybe the gr

Amy just a little rant about the topic of CYFS today, your views please.

So went out to lunch today. excuse me if this is a little scrambled went to post this five minutes ago and pushed the wrong button.

The topic of CYFS came up. And what im wondering is.

Are we alone in thinking that CYFS is failing the little ones in NZ?

Are we alone in thinking how odd it seems to be that when CYFS is at fault for a little ones death that the entire thing seems to go hush hush?

Or is it the fact we are slowly becoming desensitized b

Semenax MaxVIGRA really helps men better than viagra... and for LESS !

Finally men can enjoy all the benefits of Viagra, but for less money and without any side effects. As you know, medications like viagra and cialis have many side effects and are not recommended to many men because of their health conditions. Unlike them, MaxVIGRA is 100% natural and does not have any side effects!

OJB A Step Forward?

In the last few entries here on New Zealand politics I have been a bit critical of the current government so I think its time to be a bit more positive again. I try to avoid political affiliations - even though I concede I am basically moderately left in my political views - so I do try to compliment the parties I would normally be critical of when they get something right.

The issue I want to comment on is the management of New Zealand's crown research instituti

OJB Militant Atheism

If you have read this blog much in the past you will have gathered by now that I'm a fairly vocal atheist. I'm not worried about expressing the opinion that every religion I know of is both untrue and detrimental to the greater good of civilisation in general. Of course I readily admit that none of this is absolute: we can't prove for sure that all religions are fake and I don't believe there are absolutely no good aspects of religion.

Although I'm certainly not

Janey_Godley My week so far

“Don’t let the cat lick your eyelashes” my great niece Abi shouted. There was no danger of me letting her evil cat near my face; it has the temperament of Naomi Campbell on one of her hormonal days. I have never known such a moody cat in my life. Seriously it goes into attack mode from the far end of the hall when it sees me and it regularly cuddles up to the kids then turns on them. It’s stopped using its nails on them and basically boxes their wee cheeks with its pads…but the intention is sti… Continue

OJB More About Multiverses

When I first got involved with amateur astronomy the idea of a multiverse was either not taken seriously at all or it was considered to be so much on the edge of science that it wasn't really science at all. I've noticed over the last few years that this has changed though. It now seems that its almost the default position for many cosmologists that the big

Paula Washinton Know more about Acai Berry

OJB Evil Propaganda

A friend left a couple of interesting items on my desk this morning: two small booklets distributed by some sort of evangelical Christian organisation, possibly the NZ Evangelistic Society, based on the contact information on the back. Let the rant begin...

When I first saw them I thought they might have been some sort of naive and extreme propaganda of the sort distributed in the 1950s or maybe some sort of Nazi or Stalinist material used in simpler times when p

OJB Daniel Dennett

I always enjoy listening to Daniel Dennett speaking. In case you don't know, he's an American philosopher and a well known member of the new atheist movement. While he doesn't hesitate to be critical of religion he isn't quite as confrontational as other people with similar beliefs (for example Christopher Hitchens who I also enjoy listening to but who does take a more extreme stance).

A recent speech by Dennett agreed with what I have been saying for several yea

Janey_Godley What times I had

It’s been a weird week all in all. I was in Birmingham last week doing shows and was about to head home by train on the Monday, and then of course I got the news on Saturday night that my comedy friend Jason Wood had died suddenly. So, instead of heading back to Glasgow I went straight to London. I just felt I had to see my best pal Monica and spend some time with her; Jason’s death shocked us both to the core. And of course I wanted to attend the wee get together with some of my mates who knew… Continue
